My Norwegian Getaway Experience!

NCL Getaway 1

I have just returned from my cruise on board the Norwegian Getaway.  This is such a beautiful ship!  Their tag line – Feel Free is so apt in many ways.  Norwegian has some fabulous features that will allow you to really build your own cruise experience to best suit your individual wishes.

On every ship you always have those dining options that are included in your cruise cost.  They are plentiful and give you choices, such as the 3 main dining rooms that are in different locations.  The Tropicana being the largest and offers you entertainment during your meal.  You do need to take a look at the schedule to see when these will occur and during peak times it’s best to pre-book.  Taste and Savor are the 2 smaller, quieter dining options that are located on the deck below.  You also have O’Sheehan’s Bar and Grill as another free choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as the Garden Café and Flamingo Grill which offers buffet style options.  Did I find line ups for dining?  There are times where you will find it busier than others but they have managed it well I think.

Galapagos with Celebrity’s Xpedition

What is on your Bucket List?

Do you have a bucket list or wish list?  I recently attended an event that inspired me to move one of mine to the top of my list!  The speaker gave me a look at the Galapagos Islands from a new perspective.  I always thought that to complete the trip I would have to give up on my comfort.  I learned that Celebrity Cruises offers an amazing ship with all of the comforts and inclusions of home.

The Celebrity Xpedition allows you to get close to the wildlife in a way that is very unique.  The ship is small enough to get into all the nooks and crannies but large enough to offer all the comforts of home.  With only 98 guests on board it allows you to get to know all of my fellow explorers.  You are able to explore as the early explorers did many years earlier but with the Modern Luxury for the Modern Explorer.CelebGalap island

The Enchanting Rhine River Cruise

AMA Sonata – The Enchanting Rhine – 7 night River Cruise

Arrival – Amsterdam – I came in on the train into Amsterdam’s Central Station.  Very easy to find the river side of the terminal.  Just to the right and a quick 10 min walk to the Pier of the AMA Sonata.  We arrived early and were quickly checked in and our luggage was whisked away.  The complete process took 5 min!  They were such a treat!  We were then ready to explore Amsterdam.  What a great walking city.  Just keep an eye on the bikes and you are good to go.  Amsterdam is very organized in that there is a place for the cars, a separate area designated for the bikes and a side walk for pedestrians.

AMA Sonata Rhine River Cruise

River cruising.  I always thought it would be a nice way to see the countryside of Europe but….  would I not be the youngest?  Would I feel out of place?  Would I have to go out shopping for fancy clothes?  I would prefer to be a bit relaxed.

Well I am sailing this week on the AMA Sonata and these questions have been answered. Now, at just over 50 I am not a minority.  Yes there are elders but there are many that are my age and younger!  It is a very nice surprise.  I am meeting a new friend at every turn.  We sit with someone new at each meal and we see them over and over again.  Some I know will become life long friends.

Royal Caribbean’s Newest Ships

Quantum of Seas

The new Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas  from Royal Caribbean is changing the look of cruising.  It used to be that Dining in the Main Dining Room on board a ship meant you had a choice of 1st or 2nd Dining.  This was giving you a choice to eat at a set time, at a set table with your table members being the same every night.  They then introduced My Time Dining.  This offered you the flexibility of choosing the time you wished to dine in the Main Dining Room and with whom.  It is the same as you would experience going to your favorite restaurant as home.

Top 10 Packing Tips for Cruisers

Here are some “must have” cruise packing tips to make your holiday more enjoyable.

1.  The first day

For the first day of your cruise, you will not have access to your checked bags until later that evening.  Pack your carry on with not only your travel documents, but also with a bathing suit, change of clothes, evening shoes and anything thing else that you may need.  This way you are ready to explore the ship the first day in comfort.

 2.  On board attire

Slacks, shorts, t-shirts, capris, casual shirts, sun dresses.  These will be perfect for both indoor and outdoor during the day.  .

 3.  Pool wear

Be sure to pack 2 swim suits (so you won’t need to put on a wet suit), casual shoes, flip flops, sandals, and running shoes.  Also have a cover-up, t-shirt and shorts for entrance into the buffet.
